It was far too long ago to remember, certainly with any great detail, the original railway terminus and visitor’s centre at the summit if Snowdon – Wales’ highest peak. The railway itself is one of the few mountain railways in the UK but the spectacular route certainly makes up for the lack of such lines. What is more is that following your trip up the mountain there’s another lakeside railway just opposite the mountain railway terminus – the Llanberis Lake Railway. But back to the mountain railway; once you get to the summit you can now marvel at the very attractive looking terminus and visitors centre. This is simply a stunning building. It might not make it into the halls of famous railway buildings of the world (although you never know) but it is very sympathetic to the mountain and even blends in with the summit. Whilst I appreciate architecture (ok, I love it), I will leave it to the Guardian’s architecture critic to define the experience. Whilst the journey to the top can either see your wallet slightly lighter, or legs feeling how under-used they are, the summit will please the eye.
