A “consortium” of six countries are backing a proposed freight plan that will see goods moving from China to Germany, via Mongolia, Russia, Belarus and Poland. A scheduled freight journey should take 20 days. Currently it takes 40 days and an additional 10,000 km using sea routes. There are currently trials taking place to see what is actually involved in making this journey and each country will be looking on ways to improve the overall efficiency. I just wonder how long it will be before we see passenger trains doing the same journey, something like a version of the Orient Express for those who dislike flying and who have the time to spare.
